Preventative Maintenance Planner, Level II

About the role

AIS, a premier government contractor, is seeking a Preventive Maintenance (PM) Planner to support the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee or the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS but will receive day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff. Pay, benefits, and HR functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including physicals, drug screening, and background investigations to satisfy Department of Energy clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed and standardized work packages for preventive maintenance, including clear work instructions, scope, task sequences, and required resources.
• Identify and list all necessary parts, tools, materials, and specialized equipment for each work order to ensure readiness before job commencement.
• Perform field walk-downs to scope jobs, identify hazards, and ensure work packages reflect actual field conditions.
• Identify and incorporate all required safety permits (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Job Hazard Analysis) into work packages.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations by embedding clear safety protocols and hazard analyses into every work package.
• Ensure timely and accurate close-out of work packages in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Collaborate with the site Reliability Engineer to analyze equipment history and refine PM strategies for critical assets.
• Incorporate feedback from maintenance technicians and supervisors to improve the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of PM job plans.
• Demonstrate exceptional organizational and time-management skills to manage a large backlog and balance multiple priorities.
• Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of industrial safety procedures, particularly Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

Requirements

• High School diploma and 3-5+ years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment as a technician, lead, or planner.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical or electrical systems is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, maintenance practices, and equipment operation.
• Advanced proficiency in using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP.

Pre-employment Requirements

• Successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment drug test (external applicants).
• Job-related pre-placement medical examinations may be required.

Work Type

On-site at either the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee or the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas.
