Preservation Coordinator

City of Alexandria, Virginia · Alexandria, VA · 1 mo ago
OTHRFull-time
We need to output HTML fragment with sections: About the role? The posting includes "About The Department", "What You Should Bring", "Minimum & Additional Requirements", "Preferred Qualifications", "The Opportunity: Examples of Work". Also there is an overview earlier. We need to use

for section headings (e.g., About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). We should map content to appropriate headings. The instructions: "use

for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule)." So we should use those exact headings when appropriate. We need to include a section only when posting has real, specific content for it. We must not repeat job title as heading. No Job ID. Remove boilerplate. We need to decide which sections to include: About the role (overview), Responsibilities (maybe "The Opportunity: Examples of Work" and overview tasks), Requirements (Minimum & Additional Requirements), Qualifications (Preferred Qualifications), Skills (maybe from "What You Should Bring" includes communication, problem-solving, etc.), Benefits (none mentioned), Pay (none), Schedule (maybe mention evenings/weekends, after-hours emergencies, ability to work nights and weekends as needed). There's schedule info: "must be available to work some evenings and weekends and be able to respond to after-hours emergencies" and later "Ability to work nights and weekends as needed". So we can include Schedule section. We must not create sections with filler like "not specified". So only include sections where we have concrete content. We need to preserve all substantive information. So we need to include details from overview, responsibilities, requirements, qualifications, skills, schedule. We must not include EEO boilerplate, etc. We need to output only HTML fragment, no /, no markdown fences. Let's structure:

About the role

... overview of OHA, manages fifteen historic sites, etc.

  • Perform related work as required.
Maybe also include earlier overview tasks: manages maintenance, restoration, Capital projects, long-term preservation; works with other City agencies; ensures historic integrity; enforces preservation standards and terms of easements; must be available evenings/weekends; respond after-hours emergencies. Those could be part of responsibilities as well. We can incorporate them.

Schedule

  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends and be able to respond to after-hours emergencies (e.g., pipe breaks or HVAC failures).
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
We should not include Benefits, Pay sections as none. Check for duplication: Some items appear in multiple places (vehicle operation appears both in Qualifications and earlier). We can keep once. We need to ensure we preserve all substantive information: The overview about city location, population, waterfront, historic district, etc. Should we include that? It's substantive but not about role. The instructions: "Preserve ALL substantive information". So we should include that info somewhere, maybe in About the role or a separate section like "About the City". But we only allowed headings from list; we could put city info in About the role paragraph. That seems okay. Let's craft About the role paragraph to include city description and OHA overview. Paragraph: "The City of Alexandria is located in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington and Fairfax counties. With a population of approximately 156,000 and a land area of 15.75 square miles, Alexandria is the seventh largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Alexandria has a charming waterfront and is a unique and historic place to live and work. About one-quarter of the city’s square miles have been designated as a national or local historic district. The Office of Historic Alexandria (OHA) manages and oversees fifteen historic sites, properties, and museums throughout the City, ranging from historic structures to cultural landscapes to modern buildings, drawing over 200,000 visitors collectively per year. This position manages maintenance, restoration, Capital projects, and long-term preservation of these buildings, sites and historic collections by working closely with other City agencies, including General Services and Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities. The Historic Preservation Coordinator works collaboratively across the department and with preservation specialists and vendors to ensure and protect the historic integrity of the City’s cultural resources, including enforcing preservation standards and terms of easements." That covers overview. Now ensure we didn't miss any details: The "What You Should Bring" section includes extensive background etc. Already captured in Skills. Also includes "ideal candidate must possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills and be able to give clear directions to contractors and City staff. They must be detail-oriented and possess excellent project management and documentation skills. They should have and maintain a working knowledge of preservation standards and current best practices, as well as skills in the professional handling, documentation and exhibition of historical objects in museum collections. The ideal candidate must be able to work well independently and collaboratively with a small team. The ability to operate a vehicle to monitor and attend to multiple historic sites is essential to this position." Those are in Skills and Qualifications. Also "It is helpful to have facilities experience related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security systems, fire systems, and general carpentry." That's in Skills. Also "The Opportunity: Examples of Work" we used for Responsibilities. Also "About The Department" we could incorporate into About the role or maybe a separate section "About the Department". But we only have allowed headings; we could add a section "About the Department" but not in the list. The instruction says use

for section headings (e.g. About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule). It doesn't forbid other headings, but says use those for section headings. It might be safer to stick to those headings. We can incorporate department info into About the role. Check for any other substantive info: "The City of Alexandria is an Equal Opportunity Employer..." that's boilerplate to remove. Now ensure we didn't include any filler like "commensurate with experience". Not present. Now produce HTML fragment. We need to wrap each section in

and then content. Let's produce:

Make sure no extra whitespace issues. Let's craft the paragraphs precisely. About the role paragraph: "The City of Alexandria is located in northern Virginia and is bordered by the District of Columbia (Potomac River), Arlington and Fairfax counties. The Historic Preservation Coordinator works collaboratively across the department and with preservation specialists and vendors to ensure and protect the historic integrity of the City’s cultural resources, including enforcing preservation standards and terms of easements." Now Responsibilities list items: we need to include all from "The Opportunity: Examples of Work" plus earlier tasks. Let's compile: - Oversee projects and tasks related to the maintenance, restoration, and long-term preservation of OHA’s buildings and cultural landscapes. - Work closely with OHA staff, General Services, and Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities to budget, prioritize, and implement site maintenance and preservation improvements for OHA’s buildings and cultural landscapes. - Write scopes of work and actively participate in the procurement and contracting process for OHA buildings and cultural landscapes, collaborating with City staff and outside preservation-centered contractors. - In coordination with OHA staff, prepare, justify and administer the OHA facilities budget and implement a maintenance schedule; monitor expenditures, conduct cost-benefit analyses on a regular basis for individual properties, and set priorities for facilities management. - Serve as a point of contact and resource for maintenance and preservation issues within OHA and provide building and site condition updates as needed to OHA staff. - Evaluate issues of security, disaster preparedness, and public safety at all OHA buildings and sites, and ensure that measures are in place and implemented. - Collaborate with OHA curatorial and archival staff on collections management issues
