Preschool Site Supervisor I/II

About the Role

The Preschool Site Supervisor I, under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, assists in managing a preschool classroom, develops lesson plans, and promotes the emotional, physical, mental, and social wellbeing of children in a classroom environment. This role collaborates with the Preschool Site Supervisor II to plan and implement programs, ensuring equipment and facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained while adhering to state licensing policies.

This is an entry-level position in the Preschool Site Supervisor series, providing professional and technical support in program administration. It is distinguished from the Preschool Site Supervisor II by its training-focused nature and lower level of independence and responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Preschool Site Supervisor II to develop and present a daily curriculum, including age- and culturally-appropriate activities, games, outdoor activities, and teaching programs.
• Actively teach learning activities and research teaching methods to meet children’s interests and needs.
• Establish routines, ensure adherence to the daily schedule, and plan and supervise field trips and class projects.
• Discuss disciplinary issues with parents sensitively and provide resources.
• Promote early education and literacy through reading and related activities.
• Maintain positive, transparent relationships and communication with parents and staff.
• Attend to children’s basic needs, including dressing, feeding, and teaching hygiene and bathroom etiquette.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom; manage inventory and supplies.
• Keep accurate records of children’s files, sign-in/out sheets, incident/accident reports, and staff records.
• Observe and document children’s social and educational development; communicate progress with parents.
• Create a positive preschool environment that ensures safety, enrichment, and builds children’s self-esteem.
• Implement positive discipline and behavior modification as needed.
• Participate in professional workshops to improve early childhood education.
• Responsible for opening, closing, and securing the facility; conduct monthly safety and fire drills.
• Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor and Program Coordinator.

Requirements

• AA in Child Development or a minimum of 60 units, including 24 ECE/CD units with core courses, 16 GE units, plus 6 administration units and 2 adult supervision units.
• Two (2) years of experience working with children ages 2-5 as a qualified Site Supervisor.

Qualifications

• CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (required by the first day of employment).
• Mandated Reporter Training Certificate (required by the first day of employment).
• Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (desirable).

The Preschool Site Supervisor II, under the general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, manages a preschool classroom, develops lesson plans, and promotes the emotional, physical, mental, and social wellbeing of children. This role is responsible for planning and implementing programs, ensuring equipment and facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained, and adhering to state licensing policies.

This is a journey-level position in the Preschool Site Supervisor series, characterized by a high degree of independence, responsibility, and complexity of assignments. It supervises the Preschool Site Supervisor I.

Responsibilities (Preschool Site Supervisor II)

• Develop a daily curriculum, including age- and culturally-appropriate activities, games, outdoor activities, and teaching programs.
• Ensure compliance with all licensing regulations, agency policies, procedures, and the Education Code.
• Actively teach learning activities and research teaching methods to meet children’s interests and needs.
• Establish routines and ensure adherence to the daily schedule; plan and supervise field trips and class projects.
• Discuss disciplinary issues with parents sensitively and provide resources.
• Promote early education and literacy through reading and related activities.
• Maintain accurate records, including enrollment, curriculum, and observations.
• Create a positive preschool environment that ensures safety, enrichment, and builds children’s self-esteem.
• Implement positive discipline and behavior modification as needed.
• Observe and document children’s social and educational development; communicate progress with parents.
• Develop positive relationships with parents and maintain communication verbally and in writing, including a monthly newsletter.
• Plan and provide a nutritious monthly snack menu; order monthly snack supplies.
• Attend to children’s basic needs, including dressing, feeding, and teaching hygiene and bathroom etiquette.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom; manage inventory and supplies.
• Plan and lead staff meetings; recommend training programs and conferences.
• Participate in professional workshops to improve early childhood education.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of children’s files, sign-in/out sheets, incident/accident reports, and staff records.
• Responsible for opening, closing, and securing the facility; conduct monthly fire, earthquake, and other required safety drills.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor and Program Coordinator.

Requirements (Preschool Site Supervisor II)

• Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 32 units, including 24 ECE/CD units with core courses, 6 administration units, and 2 adult supervision units.
• Three (3) years of experience working with children ages 2-5 as a qualified Site Supervisor.

Qualifications (Preschool Site Supervisor II)

• Child Development Site Supervisor Permit (required).
• Mandated Reporter Training Certificate, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (required by the first day of employment).
• Child Development Program Director Permit and/or Child Development Site Supervisor permit (desirable).
