About the role

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) is seeking two Paraprofessionals to work with their blind/low-vision preschool students. These positions are located in Salt Lake City.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor
  • Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor
  • Perform such duties as may relate to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas
  • Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor
  • Aid with routine daily activities, including bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom duties (may include diapering), etc.
  • Support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students
  • Maintain accurate records and logs
  • Design and/or prepare training/instructional materials, teaching aids and devices

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions, enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form, ability to deal with strenuous physical requirements, ability to deal with risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment
  • Preferred experience: Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization, techniques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom teachers
