Paraprofessional for the Blind/Visually Impaired, USDB

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor
• Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor
• Perform such duties as may relate to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas
• Aid with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor
• Assist with routine daily activities, including bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom duties (may include diapering), etc.
• Support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students
• Maintain accurate records and logs
• Design and/or prepare training/instructional materials, teaching aids and devices

Qualifications

• Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization
• Techiques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom teachers
• Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions
• Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form
• Excited about working with students with disabilities
• Positive in their dealings with teachers and other staff
• Good listeners who follow directions well
• Respected and trusted by students and parents
• Willing to be flexible in work tasks and assignments
