About the role

The role of Preschool Lead Teacher involves creating age-appropriate lesson plans based on the curriculum, supervising a Preschool Assistant Teacher, and ensuring all classroom procedures are followed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans based on the curriculum outline
  • Provide a variety of activities and materials that are age appropriate and relevant to young children
  • Supervise one Preschool Assistant Teacher during assigned classes
  • Create a nurturing classroom through play and one-on-one interactions
  • Treat children in a positive manner that encourages individuality and positive self-esteem
  • Maintain a safe environment by supervising children at all times and acknowledging their presence
  • Document student growth through individual portfolios and assessments
  • Communicate effectively with parents, co-workers, and supervisors
  • Perform first aid assistance when necessary
  • Participate in all monthly meetings, family nights, and in-service training
  • Coordinate daily snack time and perform designated preschool housekeeping duties
  • Take monthly inventory of classroom supplies and submit information to the Preschool Supervisor
  • Drive department vehicles for job-related activities
  • Post monthly newsletters and maintain bulletin boards for parent communication
  • Substitute for other Preschool staff as required

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months early childhood or preschool experience preferred
  • Valid Illinois driver's license
  • Current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Village personnel, program participants, and school personnel
  • Ability to interpret and carry out instructions
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Physical ability to lead and participate in activities including physical games, activities, field trips, and special events
  • Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks
  • Environmental adaptability to work independently and complete daily activities under minimum supervision

Skills

  • Strong organization, written, speaking, leadership, and classroom management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, decisiveness, and creativity
  • Ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks
  • Physical ability to lead and participate in activities including physical games, activities, field trips, and special events
