About This Role
Big Oak Child Care center is looking to hire a full-time cook (30-40 hours/week)
What You'll Do
- State and City Accreditation
- Fulfill in-service requirements and maintain records of fulfillment, according to state regulations.
- Identify personal goals annually.
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the kitchen upon arrival and before leaving each day according to state regulations.
- Sanitation
- Wash hands with soap when you arrive to start work, before and after touching foods and using toilet facilities according to state regulations.
- Wash and disinfect counter tops before and after preparing foods.
- Clear and wash all dishes.
- Notify management when running low on chemicals.
- Kitchen and other Duties
- Prepare breakfast, lunch and snack daily for all children at scheduled times and in compliance with state regulations on minimum food groups and amounts.
- Responsible for proper storage of foods in refrigerator and cupboards.
- Maintain cleanliness of refrigerator at all times.
- Monitor temperature of all refrigerators and freezers in the center, including in classrooms.
- Order all kitchen supplies as needed. (i.e. vinyl gloves, paper towels, toilet paper etc.)
- Shop for all necessary food and non-food items with budget in mind.
- Communicate with classrooms on proper refrigerator storage and cleanliness.
- Planning
- Create and follow healthy and diverse menus (rotate weekly.)
- Identify a consistent schedule for shopping and stock kitchen with a minimum of 3 days of food items to accommodate in the event of an absence.
- Work with the Administrative Director to ensure purchases and planning adheres to applicable budget allocation.
- Miscellaneous
- Responsible for answering all incoming calls from classroom/office to kitchen.
- Step into classrooms to help cover breaks as needed.
- Report all maintenance needs to the Administrative Director.
Requirements
- Must have or be willing to obtain ServSafe certification
- Must be able to pass a caregiver background check
- Must be comfortable working with young children
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to use vehicle for weekly shopping trips.

- Sign-on Bonus will be paid out on the first paycheck after 90 days of employment.
- Bonus must be repaid on a pro-rated basis if employee quits before working for 12 months.
