About the role

Applies the nursing process to plan and manage the care of complex patients in a comprehensive manner. Recognizes complex learning needs and prepares individual teaching plans for patients and families. Ensures a comprehensive continuum of care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team. Demonstrates effective communication, conflict resolution, and evidence-based care while continuously monitoring patient outcomes. Engages in professional growth activities according to Board of Nursing standards. Floats across entities to fulfill role requirements.

This temporary assignment is part of the Vanderbilt Medical Center Staffing Collaborative, offering 13-week assignments within specific units at VUMC. The role provides premium pay and optional health benefits, focusing on fulfilling the most significant scheduling needs across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, set priorities, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility.
  • Provides patient education and conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations.
  • Gathers pertinent clinical data to aid in referral, treatment, or other primary care pathways.
  • Searches for evidence to answer clinical questions and works under the direction of others to accomplish assignments.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program (or equivalent experience).
  • 1 year of ED RN experience; 2 or more years of recent ED RN experience preferred.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Ability to float across entities to fulfill role requirements.
  • Must meet minimum requirements consistent with full-time staff expectations for the specific unit.

  • Nursing Patient Education: Proficient in providing patient education for practical applications of moderate difficulty.

  • Evidence-Based Practice: Proficient in searching for evidence to answer clinical questions.

Benefits

  • Premium pay: $65–$75/hour (varies by shift; night shift at $75/hour).

Schedule

  • Temporary, full-time assignment lasting until 01/09/2027.
  • Night shift (7p–7a) in the Emergency Department at Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, TN.
  • Assignments may require working weekends and holidays.
