About the Role
Leads and directs the audit process while working in partnership with the insured and underwriting department. Key priorities include analyzing payroll provided by the customer and reviewing/verifying the accuracy of payroll.
Responsibilities
- Review the policyholder’s financial reconciliations, payroll records, and claims information.
- Reconcile payroll records to quarterly and federal tax returns (941’s, 1099’s, etc.).
- Determine appropriate job classification codes.
- Apply the Basic Workers Compensation Manual Rules.
- Work closely with the underwriting and marketing department to provide updated information and audit results.
- Address questions and audit disputes with the underwriting and marketing department.
- Manage relationships with the agent of record and insureds during audits.
- Collaborate with the audit supervisor/manager.
- Process and maintain workload according to audit guidelines.
- Summarize audit information using industry and governmental rules and regulations.
- Communicate audit decisions regarding new and renewal policies to agents in a timely and professional manner.
- Initiate assistance from the underwriter or audit supervisor/manager when needed to complete the audit review.
- Maintain agency and insured relationships.
- Demonstrate personal integrity and ethical behavior to maintain trust.
- Stay current on industry technical knowledge and skills.
Requirements
- Property and Casualty insurance knowledge, including workers compensation.
- Workers compensation audit experience.
- Understanding of National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI) rulings, manual rules, and labor code.
- Knowledge of Excel programs, accounting, and workers compensation coverage for all states.
- Familiarity with insurance operations for underwriting and marketing.
- Payroll analysis experience and determination of class code application.
- Professional communication skills through all means.
- Documentation of decision processes.
- Personal planning, organizing, and working to deadlines.
- Creative and innovative skills to handle complex audits.
- Relationship management for both agents and insureds.
- Decision-making during the audit process.
- Communication with internal and external customers.

- Basic skill using Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel).
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in the insurance industry or a closely related discipline.
- Ability to analyze and compare policyholders’ financial reconciliations, payroll records, and claim information.
- Ability to determine and reconcile appropriate job classification codes.
- Knowledge of the Labor Code and NCCI.
- Ability to apply the Basic Manual Rules and classifications to audit information.
- Assist agents, insureds, and underwriters on issues that may arise.
