Pre-School Assistant
About the role
The City of Bellevue Crossroads Community Center is seeking a Pre-School Assistant Teacher for their pre-school program. This program serves children aged 3-5.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervision and safety of children under the guidance of the pre-school teacher.
- Check children in/out of the pre-school classroom daily.
- Ensure a Child Waiver Form is completed by the parent/guardian.
- Lead art, singing, circle time, exploration, and structured games and activities.
- Maintain a cooperative, supportive, and enthusiastic atmosphere.
- Assist in developing instructional materials centered on seasonal activities.
- Affirmatively assess the needs of the children served.
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Support the teacher in maintaining and creating necessary paperwork.
- Encourage children to follow rules and routines.
- Set up and clean up the classroom daily.
- Encourage children to take turns and share.
- Manage transitions and lead outdoor/playtime activities.
- Encourage children to use words to resolve conflicts.
- Carry out work responsibilities effectively under pressure.
- Enhance the learning environment by assisting in its enhancement.
- Report all problems and concerns immediately to the teacher and/or Recreation Coordinator or the Center Supervisor.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old, with a high school diploma.
- Two or more years of experience in recreation activity or program or in the general recreation field, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Experience supervising young children.
- Enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, and trustworthy.
- Strong communication skills, oral and written.
- Sensitive to the needs of the children.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Pass the Criminal Background check.
- Possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification prior to start date.

Benefits
The City of Bellevue offers competitive pay and benefits. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

Schedule
The pre-school is from 9:30a.m. – 12:30p.m. Monday through Friday. The assistant will be expected to arrive at 9a.m. Additionally, the preschool is offered the first Saturday of every month. CPR/First aid training will be offered once a year, attendance is mandatory. Attendance is key to this position, days off are Saturday and Sunday only.

- Physical Demands: Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or set up arts/crafts, games, play sports, physically play and demonstrate games, work with arts and crafts materials, jump and run. Indoor and outdoor recreational environment subject to noise, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and periodic interruptions. Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible. Strong stamina.
- Other Tasks: Assist with program set-up and take-down. Employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds. Employee may be required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Ability to work with large group of young children. Be able to respond and react to an emergency in an effective manner.

Definition of a Variable
Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire. Hours may vary depending on the prep time needed and clean up time aside from class teaching hours. The position is considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (130 hours per month).
