About the role
This position provides general support functions within the Technical Operations Department. Tasks must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Sorting, racking, pickup, and delivery of specimens to the laboratory
- Specimen storage (may include training to run sorters in archive mode)
- Centrifugation and aliquoting
- Identify and resolve or escalate problems with specimen types, missing information, or other issues related to sorting, racking, centrifuging, delivery, and storage
- Research test order information using translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services
- Meet quality and production standards within 6 months of completing training
- Complete all required written documentation legibly and within assigned time frames
- Maintain punctuality and support department performance during coworker absences
- Learn additional functions within Technical Operations and Specimen Processing to progress to the next level
- Understand compliance policies related to test ordering and specimen handling
- Work in a biohazard environment while complying with all applicable safety requirements
- Maintain a neat and clean work area in compliance with 5S workplace standards
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Medical background preferred, including clinical laboratory medical terminology
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a production environment
- Effective verbal and written communication with all staff levels
- Maintain composure under pressure and exercise good judgment in problem resolution
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods; lift up to 50 lbs.; maneuver large carts and racks with specimens
- Strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive working environment
- Flexibility to adapt to work assignment changes and schedule adjustments
- Previous experience in a production environment preferred
- Familiarity with mainframe computers and minimal data entry skills
- Good organizational skills and understanding of specimen types related to tests ordered
- Knowledge of clinical department requirements for specimen handling and delivery
- Understanding of compliance regulations related to test ordering
- Commitment to continuous improvement and fulfilling customer requirements
- Willingness to contribute actively to a team-based working environment
Schedule
12:00 AM – 8:30 AM, Tuesday through Saturday, with rotational Saturdays.
