Pre-analytic Tech II - Lab

Responsibilities

• Perform phlebotomy duties, including blood sample collection using skin puncture and venipuncture.
• Prepare samples for testing and deliver them to laboratory departments during the pre-analytic phase.
• Adhere to all procedures for collecting and preparing laboratory specimens.
• Maintain accurate medical records of specimens.
• Collect blood and specimens from patients according to departmental protocol and policy.
• Accession patient samples into the laboratory computer system and distribute them to technical departments for analysis.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of phlebotomy and accessioning principles.
• Practice appropriate safety, environmental, and infection control procedures.
• Follow established safety policies regarding biohazard and sharp exposure.
• Maintain accurate patient identification in phlebotomy, accessioning, and pre-analytic areas of the laboratory.
• Maintain blood culture collection performance and keep recollects at or below the 2% benchmark.
• Perform journeyman-level tasks in the pre-analytical phase of testing.
• Follow hospital and departmental policies and protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 2 years of phlebotomy and specimen processing experience required.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Self-motivated with a desire to learn.
• Excel in fast-paced environments.
• Demonstrate strong human relation and effective communication skills.
