Responsibilities
- Performs complex pre-analytic specimen receiving and processing using proper safety procedures in an accurate and ethical manner.
- Specimen receipt, identification verification, processing, and storage, using lab automation.
- Prepares any specimens to send-out to referral labs, prepares and packages all mail out kits, while ensuring and maintaining positive patient identification throughout the process.
- Maintains and documents send-out lab requisitions and billing.
- Contributes to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assists with training new team members.
- Assists consultants with specimen collection and research.
- Triage specimens according to level of complexity and patient history.
- Reagent preparation.
- Maintain work unit supply inventory levels.
- Performs order entry/troubleshooting in the laboratory computer system and electronic health record.
- Retrieves and verifies patient identification on specimens using appropriate sources.
- Conducts resolution of pre-analytic specimen-related issues.
- Responds to a high volume of phone calls seeking laboratory testing/order information or add-ons.
- Must be able to learn and utilize multiple computer systems and have the ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations.
- Works with minimal supervision and attention to detail is essential.
- Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, and weekend work assignments.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required (G.E.D.).
- Minimum of two (2) years of specimen processing and handling, accessioning, clinical lab, lab testing, and/or other relevant lab or clinical experience.
- Associate's degree in a health or science related field and one (1) year of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
- Demonstrated aptitude for working in a laboratory or interest in biologic or chemical sciences and the ability to carry out facility operations independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrates organizational ability and follow directions accurately.
- Demonstrates professional communication skills as well as proper technique and etiquette for answering the telephone and providing information.
- Must demonstrate excellent computer skills, familiarity with electronic health record and lab information systems, knowledge of medical terminology, and prior exposure to clinical medicine and/or pathology environments.

Compensation Detail
Compensation range is $20.98 - $29.19 / hour. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/ we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
