About the role
The Practice Manager will serve as a strategic operating partner for the Litigation Division and its departments. This role advances business, financial, operational, and strategic priorities by translating priorities into practical plans, driving projects, surfacing trends, and coordinating support across firm administrative teams.
Responsibilities
- Business, Administrative, Financial and Operational Support
- Serve as a strategic resource to Division and Department Chairs by identifying priorities, framing issues, developing options, and advancing projects with sound judgment.
- Support operational effectiveness, profitability, service delivery innovation, matter management, pricing discipline, and efficient use of firm resources.
- Cook up operational support for Division and Department Chair requests with the appropriate administrative or operational teams and ensure clear, successful handoffs.
- Partner with Finance and Pricing on budgets, dashboards, reports, production trends, value propositions, pricing strategy, matter management, and related financial considerations.
- Strategic Planning and Execution
- Support division and department strategic planning at the direction of the Division and Department Chairs.
- Turn strategic priorities into project plans with clear objectives, owners, timelines, dependencies, decision points, and progress measures; report progress, risks, barriers, and next steps.
- Manage division- and department-level projects supporting business plans, financial performance, matter management, technology, templates, workflows, training, and operational improvement.
- Efficiency, Legal Project Management, Knowledge Management and Technology
- Identify practice needs and pain points that may be addressed through legal project management, process improvement, knowledge management, technology, or better workflows.
- Manage or support division initiatives involving AI-enabled tools, practice technology, matter management tools, templates, checklists, precedent resources, and adoption efforts.
- Support data strategy by tracking matter profile, practice content, and experience data in coordination with MBD, RKM, and department leadership.
- Monitor legal technology developments and assist with evaluation, implementation, training, rollout, adoption, and best practices with IT and RKM.
Qualifications
- Exercise excellent judgment and discretion, move work forward amid competing priorities and limited direction, read stakeholder needs, ask well-framed questions, and build positive relationships with attorneys, administrative leaders, and cross-functional teams.
- Show strong analytical, project management, prioritization, organizational, financial, relationship-building, and follow-through skills, with the initiative to assist beyond core duties as needed.
- Have 5+ years of relevant experience in law firm operations, practice support, professional services project management, financial analysis, pricing, legal operations, or a comparable strategic operations role.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree; MBA, JD, or other advanced degree preferred.
- Show proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, and experience with Smartsheet, Microsoft Planner, Microsoft Lists, or comparable project management tools is preferred.

The estimated starting salary range for this position is $125,000 to $135,000 per year. The compensation offered will be dependent on the candidate’s experience, skills, education, professional background, and overall qualifications.
