About the role

The Eastern Kansas Health Care System is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to serve our Veterans at the Junction City Community Based Outpatient Clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service, and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the Veteran.
  • Affirmative Action Plan: Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
  • Assist in the development and revision of the patient-driven holistic life care plan with a focus on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Provide care to a culturally diverse population with varying levels of complexity.
  • Demonstrate active collaboration, communication, and problem-solving with core team (Patient - Primary Care Provider - Registered Nurse - and Medical Support Assistant) and expanded team (family/caregiver - internal and external community-based services who may be involved in providing care to the patient).
  • May be assigned to assist other PACTs as needed at a Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) or the main campus.

Requirements

  • Basic Requirements: Must be a graduate of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency and/or the National League for Nursing at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
  • No education exceptions will be applied.
  • Must have a full - current - active and unrestricted license as a graduate licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth (i.e. - Puerto Rico) of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

  • Technically proficient in initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations.

  • Knowledge and ability to prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral - topical - subcutaneous - intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments.
  • Knowledge and ability to recognize physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medications/treatments.
  • Knowledge and ability to recognize and respond to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies.
