About the role

The Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Jeffrey Sturek, MD, PhD. The Sturek Laboratory is an NIH-funded group focusing on translational pulmonary immunology and fibrosis. Projects include the role of B cells and IgA in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, supported by a recently awarded NIH R01.

Responsibilities

  • Lead laboratory projects
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance on experimental design, conduct, and interpretation
  • Conduct studies to advance the laboratory's research program
  • Serve as the principal investigator's scientific partner
  • Enable administrative, regulatory, and operational needs of the lab
  • Teach other trainees rotating in the laboratory
  • Communicate effectively to support the training mission and prepare research proposals and manuscripts

Requirements

  • PhD in the Biosciences or MD with a research emphasis within the last five years
  • Experience with mouse models of pulmonary disease, murine or human immunology, flow cytometry, histology, primary cell culture, functional analyses, and high-dimensional data analysis
  • Experience with retro- and lenti-viral production, RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9, and RNAseq
