About the role
The Goosens Laboratory at the Center for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, invites applications for a first-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in translational biomedical science. The fellow will be mentored by Dr. Ki Goosens, Associate Professor of Medicine in Psychiatry and Pharmacological Sciences, and will focus on how hypothalamic and pituitary hormones contribute to disease in mouse models of Down Syndrome. The position involves studying multiple organ systems (brain, eye, bone, adipose) and collaborating with other trainees to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
This NIH-funded, five-year position offers strong mentorship, with an expectation to develop and annually reassess a career development plan to promote independence. The fellow will be encouraged to contribute to additional lab projects, develop an independent line of research, and present work regularly at local and conference events.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on hypothalamic and pituitary hormones in mouse models of Down Syndrome.
- Study multiple organ systems, including brain, eye, bone, and adipose tissue.
- Collaborate with graduate, undergraduate, and high school trainees to collect, analyze, and interpret data.
- Develop and annually reassess a career development plan to promote independence.
- Contribute to additional lab projects and develop an independent line of research.
- Present research findings at local events and conferences.
Requirements
- PhD or MD-PhD in Neuroscience or a related biomedical science discipline.
- Strong background in statistics and data analysis.
- Experience breeding transgenic mouse lines and handling rodents.
- Prior history of sustained research productivity.
- Experience working in at least one of the following organ systems: brain, liver, bone, adipose, or immune.
- No prior postdoctoral training.
Qualifications
- Prior work in mouse models of Down Syndrome, hypothalamus or pituitary, or the neurobiology of Alzheimer’s Disease.
- Experience with immunostaining, Western blot, ELISA, and confocal microscopy.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Initiative, troubleshooting ability, and experience leading a small team.
- Interest in research translatable to human participants.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $72,500 – $80,000 annually, depending on experience, education, and operational need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
