Postdoc Research Scholar- Nascone-Yoder Lab
About the role
The Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct independent research focusing on the development of anatomical left-right asymmetry. Specifically, the incumbent will investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of left-right asymmetric organ morphogenesis within the developing digestive tract. Research methodologies will utilize advanced gene misexpression strategies (CRISPR/morpholino oligonucleotides), transcriptomics (bulk and/or spatial), 3D imaging modalities (nano-CT), and/or computational modeling (CompuCell3D).
Core Competencies & Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Demonstrated ability to independently lead, manage, and execute complex research projects while working effectively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven track record of successful scientific collaboration.
- Technical Expertise & Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Research Methodologies: Demonstrated expertise in microscopy, image processing/analysis, gene editing, immunostaining, and/or molecular biology. Scholarly Output: A strong record of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, reflecting the ability to synthesize and disseminate research findings.
- Research Design and Execution: Independent Experimentation: Independently design and conduct research experiments to investigate developmental processes. Advanced Methodologies: Utilize advanced technical methodologies, including gene expression analysis, cell lineage tracing, and manipulation of genetic pathways. Model Organism Care: Manage, work with, and care for living model organisms (e.g., mouse, Xenopus) as required by research protocols.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Technical Analytics: Analyze complex experimental data using advanced techniques such as microscopy imaging and bioinformatics. Data Visualization: Generate high-quality figures, charts, and diagrams to clearly present research data. Results Interpretation: Interpret experimental results to draw meaningful, data-driven conclusions about the mechanisms of development.
- Publication and Dissemination: Manuscript Production: Prepare and draft scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, managing data presentation, discussion text, and subsequent revisions. Research Presentation: Disseminate research findings at national and international conferences, as well as within internal collaborative networks.
- Collaboration: Intra-Lab Support: Collaborate with laboratory colleagues and contribute to ongoing projects involving alternative organ systems. Cross-Disciplinary Partnership: Partner with researchers across scientific disciplines to exchange expertise and advance shared research aims.
- Other Work/Responsibilities: Grant Writing Support: Support the development of institutional and federal grant proposals by conducting literature reviews and drafting experimental design sections. Professional Development: Attend scientific conferences or technical courses to present findings and actively expand research skill sets. Laboratory Management & Mentorship: Maintain accurate laboratory records, manage research supply inventories, and mentor or train junior researchers and undergraduate students.
