Position Overview

The Department of Electrical Engineering (College of Engineering) and the College of Sciences (Department of Physics, Department of Mathematics) are searching for two (2) Postdoctoral Research Scholars in quantum computing at NC State University. The two positions will work synergistically on hybrid continuous-discrete-variable quantum computing, broadly defined. One position will focus on condensed matter physics, quantum simulation; the other position will focus on compilation, benchmark, and HPC simulation of quantum circuits. The postdocs will work with a cluster of vibrant quantum computing faculty at NC State, including Dr. Bojko Bakalov, Professor (Mathematics), Dr. Dror Baron (Electrical and Computer Engineering), Lex Kemper (Physics), Yuan Liu (Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Physics), Frank Mueller (Computer Science), and Huiyang Zhou (Electrical and Computer Engineering), with possible external collaborations with other universities and national labs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Explore relevant parameter regions for useful boson-fermi mixed quantum matter;
  • Design, develop, and implement novel quantum algorithms to simulate them;
  • Quantify resource requirements on simulation on hybrid CD-DV quantum processors under noise, and compare to qubit-based quantum computers;
  • Explore compilation, benchmarking, HPC simulation, error mitigation, and error correction strategies on hybrid CV-DV quantum processors;
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to understand domain-specific requirements and integrate discoveries into the team’s mission;
  • Help to lead the project and mentor junior researchers;
  • Publish research findings in reputable journals and conferences

Requirements and Preferences

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday
  • Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education: Experience with one of the following fields is preferred but not required: quantum computing, quantum algorithms, quantum simulation, quantum optics, quantum compilation, classical simulation and benchmarking of quantum circuits, condensed matter physics, programming, error correction, and signal processing
  • Required License or Certification: N/A

Recruitment

  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,176 - $70,000
