Responsibilities

• Coordinates all activities between the United States Postal Service (USPS) and the institution.
• Delivers and picks up all mail.
• Receives USPS and United Parcel Service (UPS) packages and coordinates delivery to the institutional property officer.
• Actively inspects all mail for contraband.
• Maintains and interprets SCDC policies and USPS regulations concerning mail in an institutional environment.
• Maintains records of money instruments received and/or returned.
• Coordinates activities of the E. H. Cooper Trust Fund.
• Researches records for the location of inmates to handle mail properly.
• Receives, processes, and distributes all incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
• Plans and prioritizes the daily work schedule and ensures all required training is up to date.
• Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations with one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• OR an associate degree or higher with one (1) year of supervisory experience may be substituted for the required work experience.
