About the role
To provide customers with the highest quality of service by delivering consistent customer service and resolution of customer duty and tax disputes through filing claims with US Customs & Border Protection (CBP). This position analyzes and ensures timely handling of claims, assists customers when customs and other government agencies (such as the FDA, DOT, EPA, Dept. of State, U.S. FWS) become involved with an import shipment, and ensures issues are resolved in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Load database with entries, log and assign incoming work into the Regulatory CRM, and monitor ECO DTS and REGREQ for time-sensitive disputes.
- Analyze entries related to disputed invoices to determine accuracy; compose and file appropriate claims or tenders, and notify clients of determinations.
- Resolve issues related to duty, tax, fees, valuation, and classification of imported merchandise to obtain applicable refunds for the company and customers.
- Review handling of disputed shipments involving CBP accounts receivable by performing billing in Duplex.
- Maintain technical knowledge of customs and other government agency regulations by evaluating information from ABI administrative messages, the Federal Register, published articles, and other sources.
- Provide complete, accurate, and timely updates to product database records to ensure compliance with customs rulings, notices of action, decisions, and other entry instructions.
- Support and assist other PSOT specialists and advisors as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School/GED diploma required.
- No industry experience required; minimum of 6 months work experience preferred.
- Data entry/keyboard experience required.
- Familiarity with U.S. Customs regulations and federal requirements preferred.
- Experience with brokerage systems and brokerage entry knowledge preferred.
Skills
- Working knowledge of Office 365 and email applications such as Outlook using multiple screens and windows.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle high volume and time-sensitive work effectively.
- Willingness to learn; paid training provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidate must live within 50 miles of either Buffalo, NY, or Detroit, MI.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $17.89 – $24.73 USD.
Schedule
Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM EST. This role is variable remote, with some work-from-home opportunities and some in-office work, dependent on company policy.
