About the role

Indecon is seeking suitably qualified individuals who have recently completed their PhD in economics, social research, public policy or a related discipline and are seeking to apply their skills in applied economic and policy research. The successful candidates will work as Postgraduate Research Fellows, addressing real-world problems through economic analysis and policy research.

The role involves working on a variety of projects for public and private sector clients in Ireland and internationally, covering areas such as policy evaluation, capital appraisal, impact evaluation modelling, labour market analysis, health economics, environmental economics, regulatory economics, competition economics, and economic forecasting.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake research and analysis using data from public sources and confidential client data
  • Perform econometric and statistical modelling
  • Develop complex Excel models
  • Design and manage surveys, and analyze quantitative data using statistical techniques
  • Provide economic and statistical advice to governments, commercial enterprises, and other clients
  • Produce research reports and presentations based on economic analysis
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement processes
  • Manage junior staff in the completion of project deliverables
  • Engage with clients and work as part of wider teams to deliver complex research projects

Requirements

Candidates must have recently completed a PhD in economics, social research, public policy, or a related discipline, with an outstanding academic record from a leading Irish or international university. Superb written and verbal English communication skills are essential.

Skills

  • Strong written communication skills, with experience explaining complex economic concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and manage time across multiple project commitments
  • Experience engaging with clients and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with data analysis and manipulation, ideally using STATA and/or R
  • Experience or training with AI tools (an asset)
  • Demonstrated skills or experience in one or more of the following:
    • Economic cost-benefit analyses
    • Economic impact assessments
    • Econometric and statistical modelling
    • Policy evaluation
    • Quantitative or qualitative social research
    • Business case development
    • Data analytics and large dataset modelling
    • Excel modelling
    • QGIS and/or related spatial modelling
    • Financial modelling
    • Regulatory, energy, competition, or labour economics
  • Experience with spatial analysis using QGIS (an asset)
