About the role

The Sr. Portfolio Manager plays a crucial role in managing the Commercial & Industrial loan portfolio. They partner with loan officers to administer portfolio management activities, perform credit underwriting, and manage associated credit risk. This role also identifies opportunities for portfolio expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with loan officers to effectively administer the management of assigned commercial banking relationships.
  • Perform detailed credit analysis to determine borrower/guarantor repayment capacity, appropriate loan structuring recommendations, and complete credit packages for credit committee approval.
  • Prepare underwriting documents, including collateral analysis on multiple asset classes and pricing/risk rating models.
  • Monitor borrowing base reports and covenant compliance, submitting regular reports to loan officers and maintaining tracking of exceptions.
  • Recognize and manage early warning signs for the portfolio, analyzing borrower/guarantor financial performance, and confirming compliance with financial covenants.
  • Provide customer service to existing and prospective clients through joint sales calls and direct correspondence.
  • File required reports and resolve related issues promptly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
  • 5+ years commercial banking experience, including credit underwriting.
  • Current valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong knowledge of identifying and processing maturing loans, line renewals, term loans needing extension, restructuring loans, and the approval process.
  • Strong understanding of credit underwriting.
  • Knowledge of bank products, services, and operations.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, loan contracts, and understand credit reports, financial statements, and loan documents.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to be self-starter, show initiative, and transfer knowledge to less experienced peers.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of commercial lending software.

Qualifications

  • Additional 3 years of commercial banking experience, including credit underwriting.
  • Experience prospecting and networking at various levels within a company.
  • Product training.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong knowledge of credit underwriting.
  • Understanding of commercial lending processes.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and loan documents.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Self-starter and ability to transfer knowledge to peers.
