Porter - Roost Detroit
About the role
The Porter supports the overall cleanliness, organization, and day-to-day functioning of the property. This role works closely with Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Front Desk teams to ensure guest areas, back-of-house spaces, and public zones are consistently clean, stocked, and welcoming. A great porter is proactive, detail-oriented, and takes pride in creating a seamless guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of all public areas, including lobbies, hallways, elevators, restrooms, and outdoor entryways
- Support Room Attendants by delivering linens, removing trash, and restocking supplies
- Aid in deep-cleaning tasks such as carpet care, floor polishing, and high-dusting
- Respond promptly to guest and team requests for additional items or support
- Ensure all storage closets and housekeeping areas remain organized and fully stocked
- Transport soiled linens to designated areas and distribute clean linens as needed
- Perform light maintenance tasks when appropriate (changing light bulbs, reporting issues, etc.)
- Support event or operational setups by moving furniture, equipment, or supplies
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and property standards
- Uphold brand presentation and guest-first service at all times
Qualifications
- Previous housekeeping or hospitality experience preferred but not required
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining clean, orderly spaces
- Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Friendly, professional demeanor with a service-oriented mindset
- Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays

Working Conditions/Environment:
The person having this position may have to stand and/or walk, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for eight (8) hours per day. Agility in executing fast-paced movements to navigate different areas of the property efficiently. The person having this responsibility may have to move, pull, carry, or lift objects weighing at least 50 pounds.
