Qualified applicants will be considered for Temporary Assistant Athletic Instructor (AAI) - All Sports appointments that may become available at Southern Oregon University on an as-needed, part-time, and limited-duration basis. The appointment varies in classification, salary, and length, and provides varying levels of coaching and instructional support. About the Role

  • Temporary, part-time, limited-duration appointments on an as-needed basis.
  • Varies in classification, salary, and length of assignment.
  • Non-exempt (subject to overtime regulations under FLSA).
  • On-campus work; no visa sponsorship provided.
  • Not benefits-eligible.
  • Driver’s license may be required, depending on assignment.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check (position is security-sensitive).
  • Mandatory reporter under Oregon Revised Statutes.

Responsibilities

  • (40%) Coach-specific team positions under the direction of the head coach:
    • Instruct individual athletes on sport fundamentals, strategy, and techniques.
    • Assist with strength and conditioning program implementation, opponent scouting, and team travel logistics.
  • (40%) Instruct classes in the Athletic Department:
    • Teach PE 196 Varsity Athletics and/or PE 180 Varsity Conditioning classes.
    • Prepare for classes through film evaluation, practice planning, conditioning/workout planning, game day coaching, and travel to away games.
    • Assign grades (A-F or Pass/No-Pass) based on established syllabus standards.
  • (20%) Assist in recruitment:
    • Develop effective recruitment strategies.
    • Manage an assigned recruiting territory.
    • Follow up on prospective student-athletes and research/target high schools.
  • Perform other administrative duties as needed, such as:
    • Game management and facility management.
    • Fundraising and resident hall supervision.
    • Coordination between the Athletic Department and resident halls.
  • Adhere to NAIA, Cascade Conference, and Southern Oregon University rules and regulations pertaining to recruiting, eligibility, and team operations.

Requirements

  • Three years of coaching or playing experience.
  • Experience with and ability to interact with a diverse population.
  • Must be physically capable of demonstrating movements required of the sport.
  • Willingness to travel and attend off-site training programs for professional development.
  • Ability to work additional hours and adjust schedule for special assignments or emergencies.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

  • Working knowledge of university infrastructure, policies, and procedures (or ability to learn quickly).
  • Ability to provide training and direction to student assistants.
