About the role

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Director of Athletic Training Services/Head Athletic Trainer and is independently responsible for the day-to-day sports medicine/athletic training operations of one or more of the Fayetteville State University 11 NCAA D2 athletic teams and Cheerleading. This incumbent will be assigned a 10 month work assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently and effectively oversee all sports medicine operations for assigned teams with minimum supervision.
  • Prevention, Evaluation, Treatment and Rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries and illnesses within the University’s comprehensive sports medicine program.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and precise documentation utilizing an electronic medical record system.
  • Completing required insurance claims.
  • Compliance with privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Daily interaction and communication with coaching staff including routine reports and correspondence.
  • Work closely with/have good work working relationship with team orthopedic practice/team physicians.
  • Schedule and coordinate medical appointments.
  • Maintain communication with Student Health Services for non-orthopedic illnesses.
  • Advocate and provide resources for nutritional and mental health.
  • Attend designated team practices/events.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays more than 40 hours/week.
  • Travel/Coverage of away events; pending sport assignment.
  • Maintenance/Upkeep of Athletic Training equipment and facilities.
  • Uphold Policies and Procedures set forth by Fayetteville State University, the CIAA Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Assistance with administrative duties as agreed upon by candidate and Director of Athletic Training Services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Masters’ Degree from an Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) approved Athletic Training Education Program;
  • Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer;
  • Current North Carolina state licensure or eligible for application.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications are prerequisites.

  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
