About the Role
Under supervision, this position provides effective and efficient first aid, emergency care, injury prevention, athletic training, and preconditioning for athletes in intercollegiate sports activities. This role is filled on an "as-needed" basis across all campuses/locations, with assignments based on District needs throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Act as liaison between physicians, coaches, parents, student-athletes, and administration.
- Oversee student-athlete compliance with preseason physical exams and pre-participation medical records, including for out-of-season and non-traditional season (NTS) athletes.
- Identify factors from physical exams that may affect safe participation in sports.
- Manage and maintain student-athlete records for medical clearances, health records, injuries, and treatments.
- Assist student-athletes with insurance claim completion and submission.
- Oversee the electronic record-keeping system, including training and implementation.
- Administer emergency care, treat acute/sub-acute/chronic disabilities, and refer injured athletes to physicians.
- Evaluate physical condition of injured athletes and develop corrective exercise programs.
- Provide rehabilitation services using modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy, and therapeutic exercise.
- Recognize conditions requiring special taping, bracing, or padding (preventative or rehabilitative).
- Design, develop, and supervise conditioning, reconditioning, and rehabilitation programs.
- Create and implement a concussion management plan, including baseline testing, post-concussion evaluation, and return-to-play protocols.
- Assist in designing and implementing a mental health management policy reflecting current standards.
- Monitor environmental conditions (e.g., lightning, heat, air quality) and recommend practice/game modifications for safety.
- Assist in selecting and fitting protective equipment.
- Arrange transportation for injured athletes and accompany the football team to all contests.
- Serve as host athletic trainer for visiting teams, providing pregame taping, treatments, and emergency care.
- Provide athletic training services for home events, including in-season and out-of-season NTS events/tournaments.
- Maintain and operate the athletic training room.
- Develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans (EAP) for athletic facilities, including the Athletic Training Center.
- Prepare and oversee the budget for medical and athletic training supplies/equipment.
- Supervise temporary employees and educate student-athletes on health and safety best practices.
Requirements
- Two years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as required for Athletic Trainer certification.
- Current Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificates.

Education must be from an accredited institution. Part-time experience will be converted to full-time equivalent (1 year = 12 months at 40 hours/week; 1 year of education = 30 semester units).
