Pool Manager II - Indy Island Aquatic Facility

Provides assistance in management of aquatic programs, facilities, and personnel, ensuring coordination with the Aquatic Supervisor and Park Manager for a fun, safe, and clean environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safety for participants and employees, including on-deck supervision, lifeguard coverage, attentiveness, and rotations.
  • Manages facility risk management inspections and procedures in accordance with Department, regulatory, and industry standards.
  • Oversees aquatic facility operations, including water quality, testing, chemical applications, controller calibration, pump operation, filter maintenance, and equipment upkeep (e.g., heaters, vacuums, slides, motors).
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, disciplines, and advises on-site personnel, volunteers, and contractors (e.g., Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Cashiers).
  • Conducts ongoing lifeguard in-service training.
  • Designs and implements recreational programs (aquatics, youth/family, special needs) based on community needs and Departmental guidelines.
  • Maintains detailed records for training, water testing, chemical applications, equipment logs, accident reports, incident reports, cash reports, program registrations, and swim lesson records.
  • Assists with Department lifeguard training certification programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience in Aquatic Operations.
  • Two (2) years of experience teaching and supervising swim lessons, swim teams, water aerobics, or other aquatic programs.
  • One (1) year of experience training and supervising employees.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and communicate effectively.
  • Respiratory physical and fit test for chemical facemask and maintenance/chemical handling procedures.
  • Valid Indiana operator’s license.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of all facets of Aquatic Operations.
  • Customer service and people-oriented approach.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, policies, and protocols.
  • Preferred certifications: Starfish Aquatic Institute Lifeguard Instructor, AFO/CPO.
  • Required certifications (or ability to obtain): StarGuard Lifeguard Instructor/License, CPR/First Aid Teaching Certificate, Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO).

Schedule

  • Work hours include holidays, weekends, and evenings.
  • Primary work location: park aquatic facility (office, pool deck, chemical/equipment rooms, outdoor areas).
  • Travel to various locations for work-related activities, training, and meetings.
  • May work alone on-site at times.
