POOL - Instructor - Biotechnology

Position Overview: The Biotechnology Department in the School of Professional Studies at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit applications for consideration for part-time Instructor positions. Instructors report to the Director of the Biotechnology Department and are instructional members of the faculty without tenure or promotion eligibility. Primary responsibilities include instruction with no research or service obligations. Appointments are single-term, renewable based on unit needs, funding, and performance, not exceeding two continuous semesters. This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

• Teach and/or develop a specified number of undergraduate/graduate courses per semester for the Biotechnology program, such as:
  • BTEC 341 - Principles of Bioprocessing Laboratory I
  • BTEC 460 - Introduction to Quality Control/Quality Assurance in Biotechnology
  • BTEC 542 - Protein Expression in Insect Cells
  • BTEC 630 - Biotechnology, Regulation, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance
• Prepare for and attend all class meetings; arrange for a substitute in case of absence.
• Identify needed reagents and equipment, maintain adequate supplies, and communicate ordering needs to the Biotechnology Program Director.
• Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide timely feedback, and assign grades.
• Hold regular office hours and be available for reasonable scheduling of appointments if students cannot meet during scheduled hours.
• Adhere to all Departmental, School of Professional Studies, and University policies.
• Work with the Program Director to determine course format and schedule; courses may be co-taught with other appointed Lecturers when diverse expertise is required.

Requirements

• Earned Master's degree in biotechnology or a closely related field.
• Two years of professional experience in biotechnology or a closely related field.

Qualifications

• Preferred:
  • Doctorate level degree in engineering, engineering management, or a closely related field.
  • Evidence of prior success in teaching, preferably at the graduate level and in both in-person and online formats (e.g., course evaluations, supervisor ratings).
  • Experience with a learning management system, classroom lecture recording system, and live-inclusion of remote students.

Pay

$6,500 per 3 credit hour course per semester.

Schedule

Part-time, temporary faculty position with appointments not exceeding two continuous semesters. Anticipated start date: 18-Aug-2026.

Due to state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers residing in California, Delaware, Idaho, or Minnesota. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.
