About the Role

A new independent news outlet covering the people and issues shaping the Democratic Party is hiring part-time reporters ahead of its September launch. The outlet is building toward coverage of the midterm elections and the 2028 cycle, with a focus on Democratic candidates and officeholders up and down the ballot, both on the campaign trail and in office. The publication is founder-funded and reader-supported, with no affiliation to any party committee, campaign, or advocacy organization.

Responsibilities

  • Covering a set of candidates, elected officials, or races
  • Explaining what officeholders are actually doing in office and why it matters
  • Working public records into stories (FEC filings, votes, state disclosures, etc.)
  • Interviewing candidates and elected officials

Requirements

  • Experience working at a professional news outlet
  • Ability to write clearly for readers who don't work in politics
  • Comfort with campaign finance data, or willingness to learn it fast
  • Capacity to meet regular deadlines
