About the role

The Times-Picayune is seeking an experienced reporter to cover the public officials, civic leaders, and political power centers of New Orleans. This beat focuses on telling compelling stories about how politics—and the fight for political power—affect the daily lives of New Orleanians. The city’s vibrant political landscape reflects its unique culture, neighborhoods, and people, and this role offers the opportunity to deliver distinctive, impactful journalism alongside a team with decades of experience covering south Louisiana.

Responsibilities

  • Navigate New Orleans’ political landscape, including its centers of power and key personalities.
  • Produce in-depth, engaging stories that explore the intersection of politics and everyday life in the city.
  • Deliver high-quality journalism for both print (The Times-Picayune) and digital (NOLA.com) platforms.

Requirements

  • Experience in political reporting or a related field.
  • Ability to analyze and contextualize complex political dynamics for a broad audience.
  • Strong storytelling skills, with a focus on narrative-driven journalism.
