About the role
Provide law enforcement services and functions to the University community. Responsibilities
- Ensure consistent enforcement of criminal and traffic laws by staff.
- Knowledge of investigative techniques and case preparation requirements for complex and sensitive traffic and criminal cases.
- Knowledge of the standard law enforcement equipment, its care, and safe use according to Department General Orders in order to conduct inspections.
- Manage and direct employees in general patrol and traffic enforcement and investigative work.
- Establish employee work expectations and review and assess squad performance based on standards.
- Communicate with staff daily through interpersonal interactions and written documentation.
- Employ formal conflict resolution and mediation skills.
- Recognize emerging issues and inform chain of command.
- Absorb difficult or unusual situations and assist officers.
- Analyze and resolve problems through informal discussions and formal procedures.
Requirements
- A minimum of an associate degree (or 60 hours of college credit) and 4 years of sworn law enforcement officer experience.
- Certification from NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer or certification eligible for out-of-state lateral hires.
Qualifications
At the agency head's discretion, up to 2 additional years of sworn law enforcement experience may be preferred.
Skills
