About the role
The City of Livonia seeks to hire Police Service Aides (PSAs) to support the operations of the police department. The positions involve duties within the police station, including custody processing, courtroom appearances, and interactions with various agencies.
Responsibilities
- Using lockup and detention area computer software
- Routine inspections for cleanliness, headcount, and contraband
- Finger and palm printing
- Processing of court documents such as warrants, inventory, and security of prisoner personal property
- Appearance and testimony in various courts
- Interactions with arresting officers of this and other agencies
- Interactions with supervisors
- Confirming warrants with other agencies
- Processing complaints, taking reports, operating various computer software and hardware
- Processing and filing documents including confirming warrants
- Operating LEIN devices
- Retrieving and processing records of all types
- Answering and directing incoming telephone calls
- Making voice broadcasts over police radio equipment
- Intake, inventory, processing and releasing evidence
- Receiving and processing motor vehicle accident reports
- Performing vehicle inspections, impoundments, and inventories
- Attending and completing required training at the police academy
- Learning and demonstrating proficiency in state and federal laws, local ordinances, and police department policies
- Participating in practical exercises, including physical fitness training, firearms instruction, and emergency response scenarios
- Studying and passing examinations on criminal law, investigation techniques, and ethical standards
- Maintaining physical and mental readiness for law enforcement duties
Requirements
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a high school diploma or a valid equivalency certificate by the date of the Chief's Interview Panel
- Possess and maintain a current valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Possess an MCOLES Physical Agility or a United States Military (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, or Navy) physical fitness test certificate by date of hire, illustrating successful completion, dated within the preceding 12 months of the closing date of this announcement
- Possess normal hearing, and normal visual functions and acuity
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include a passing physical fitness test certificate by date of hire
- Optional qualifications include being currently enrolled in an MCOLES-approved training academy or having passed pre-enrollment requirements for the MCOLES Basic Training Academy

- Modern office methods, procedures and equipment
- Accounting and statistical data record keeping
- Clerical procedures including statistical research, and administrative report writing

Pay
Annual base salary ranging from $41,537.60 to $52,332.80, with adjustments based on collective bargaining agreements.
