About the role
The Salinas Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Police Recruit. This role is open to those interested in starting a career in law enforcement and contributing to a community-oriented policing environment.
Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all required courses to receive a P.O.S.T. certificate
- Knowledge of city, state, and federal laws, statutes, ordinances, and court decisions relevant to assigned duties
- Police department policies, practices, regulations, and procedures
- Law enforcement and crime prevention principles, practices, and techniques
- Human behavioral theories, principles, methods, and practices
- Read and interpret complex technical documents, communicate verbally, write clear and comprehensive reports
- Handle individuals exhibiting problem behavior, manage situations presenting disorder or danger
- Carry out orders from supervisors and other senior officers
- Work effectively with a variety of co-workers and members of the public from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrate physical ability and stamina to perform duties
- Physical demands and working conditions: maintain physical and emotional conditioning, manual dexterity, visual acuity, hearing, speech, physical agility, physical strength, physical stamina, mental acuity, and alertness
Requirements
- Education: Completion of 12th grade or GED equivalent
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid State of California Driver’s License
- Background Investigation, Polygraph Exam, Medical Evaluation, Psychological Exam, and Final Chief's Interview
