Police Property and Evidence Technician
About the role
The Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor is a civilian position responsible for scheduling, coordinating and participating in the Communications section (Communications Center) of the Police Department. This role involves providing administrative assistance as assigned and functioning as a member of the Department’s dispatch team.
Responsibilities
- Supervises the Public Safety Communications Center, to include dispatch scheduling; employee evaluations; disciplinary actions; new employee orientation; development and implementation of training programs – both in service and POST-certified; coordinates and runs dispatch meetings, and approves reports.
- Maintains system administrative duties for Cyrun report writing/computer aided dispatch system, Vesta phone system, multi-frequency computerized radio system, Voice Print recording system, and 3M DMS Manager road sign system.
- Serves as custodian of dispatch records for judicial systems, to include responding to subpoenas from the District Attorney and testifying in court.
- Processes and maintains 911 raw data.
- Works in concert with Sergeants and supervisory staff in creating and implementing policies and procedures.
- Attends California CLETS Users Group and NENA conferences/trainings.
- Works with City Purchasing Department on RFPs for major purchases.
- Performs related duties as assigned, to include issuance and maintenance of department-assigned pagers and cell phones, issuance and data input for door codes, supervises security of petty cash, and maintenance of employee address and phone numbers.
Requirements
The Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor is a multiple position class within the Police Department where the focus is on the direct supervision and coordination of a small work unit and also includes significant hands-on work activities. Incumbents within this class are distinguished by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including supervising, scheduling and coordinating the activities of the Communication Center. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in police science, criminal justice administration, public administration or a closely related field or a related field.
- Three years of increasingly responsible dispatching experience in a law enforcement agency involving dispatch communication systems and some supervisory experience.
