Responsibilities

• Patrol Role: Respond to public disturbances, criminal, civil, or emergency situations; provide emergency medical assistance; control traffic; and ensure public safety.
• Detect and Prevent Crime: Conduct surveillance, note possible criminal occurrences, and take preventive measures.
• Investigate Crime Scenes: Assist detectives in specialized investigations; protect evidence; take testimony; and prepare reports.
• Enforce Traffic Laws: Direct traffic; report unsafe road conditions; promote traffic safety; and issue citations.
• Community-Oriented Policing: Participate in community events; work with businesses and residents; and engage in welfare checks.
• Special Assignments: Serve as a School Resource Officer, K-9 Officer, Traffic Detective, or SWAT member.
• Other Duties: Provide assistance to motorists; mediate family disturbances; prepare and provide testimony in court; and perform code enforcement and animal control activities.

Requirements

• Colorado P.O.S.T. certification or the ability to obtain certification within the state.
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Able to pass a comprehensive background check, polygraph, drug screen, psychological, and physical exams.
• A valid Colorado Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
• Able to attain and maintain a variety of law enforcement certifications.

Pay

The starting pay is based on a step scale and will be determined by prior experience in law enforcement, policing, or military service. The pay scale ranges from $40.21/hour to $58.64/hour, with increases at each step.

Schedule

Work is performed outside and in a patrol car, as well as in a standard office environment. Employees will be required to walk on uneven surfaces, wet areas, and outdoor terrain multiple times per day. Frequent exposure to loud noises, electrical hazards, and hazardous chemicals is expected.
