About the role
The Bellevue Police Department seeks certified Nebraska Law Enforcement Officers or other State law enforcement officers to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle.
- Respond to crimes in progress, accidents, natural disasters, fires, citizen complaints, and other calls.
- Conduct security checks in businesses, residences, parks, and other public properties.
- Take appropriate action at emergency, accident, and crime scenes.
- Identify, gather, and secure evidence; aid victims or injured persons; identify and interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; photograph, sketch, or draw diagrams of scenes.
- Aid and cooperate with Department specialists and other law enforcement personnel and agencies.
- Identify, pursue, and arrest suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts; book arrestees/prisoners.
- Carry, maintain, and use firearms or other assigned law enforcement equipment.
- Render credible testimony in a court of law.
- Render aid as a first responder to accident victims and other persons requiring first aid for physical injuries or illness.
- Investigate criminal and non-criminal incidents, collect, preserve, and analyze evidence; prepare related investigative and other reports.
- Work with attorneys and other law enforcement personnel to prepare court cases.
- Perform any assigned divisional duties.
- Provide citizens of the City with assistance as needed.
Requirements
- Valid certificate or diploma from a state-approved academy in the state you are or were most currently employed.
- Minimum of two (2) years of full-time employment as a certified law enforcement officer with independent arrest powers.
- No more than four (4) years of unemployment or inactive law enforcement status immediately prior to application.
Qualifications
- Twenty-one years of age.
- Citizen of the United States.
- Standard high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED).
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license and maintain throughout employment.
- Ability to read, write, and understand the English language at the eleventh grade level, as demonstrated by the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
- Good character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
- Certification as a Nebraska law enforcement Officer or other State law enforcement officer.
Skills
- Modern methods and practices of Police patrol, criminal investigation, and identification.
- Pertinent Federal and State Laws and City Ordinances.
- Policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Police Department.
- Geographical boundaries and streets of the City of Bellevue.
- Interviewing or interrogating victims, witnesses, suspects, and others.
- Mediating situations, using active listening, needs assessment, negotiation, and consensus-building.
- Interpersonal insight, recognizing and respecting the needs of others, and responding positively to diversity issues.
- Effective communication, expressing and presenting information orally and in writing.
- Operating a motor vehicle safely and effectively.
- Operating Police equipment, such as radio, Police radar, preliminary breath test analyzers, handcuffs, batons, etc.
- Physical demands, including strength, cardiovascular endurance, and agility.

Starting salary range: $36.37 - $44.54 hourly ($75,649.60 - $92,643.20 yearly)
