About the Role

This position is a full-time, in-person role located at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo (CMHHIP). The incumbent will provide security, law enforcement, and transportation services, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all persons on the grounds of CMHHIP and within the surrounding community.

Responsibilities

  • Law Enforcement Duties: Provide immediate intervention in crisis situations, enforce laws and regulations, exercise powers of custody and arrest, investigate incidents, and prepare reports.
  • Patient Crisis Intervention: Respond to and handle patient crisis incidents beyond the capabilities of hospital staff.
  • Secure Transport: Transport criminally and civilly committed patients to and from courts, hospitals, clinics, and jails, ensuring safety and security.
  • Training: Attend and participate in assigned training, maintain POST certification, and meet mandatory training requirements.
  • Other Duties: Assist with additional tasks as assigned, adhering to CDHS, CMHIP, and DPS policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification.
  • One (1) year of experience in a related occupational field.
  • Full background check, including CBI & FBI fingerprint check, Colorado Court Database check, and more.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to maintain proficiency with firearms.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment psychological exam, polygraph test, and medical fitness examination.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: P.O.S.T. certification and one year of related experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • College education (2+ years) in behavioral health or juvenile justice.
    • Experience working with patients in leadership roles (mentoring, coaching).
    • Experience in a high-security locked environment.
    • Experience working with patients suffering from mental illness.
