About the role
The Orleans Levee District Police Department is responsible for patrolling and inspecting levees and floodwalls to ensure the integrity of the levee system. The incumbent performs law enforcement duties, crime prevention, and emergency services.
Responsibilities
- Patrols assigned area on foot or in a vehicle to detect and prevent crime.
- Inspects and reports on the condition of levees, floodwalls, and other flood structures.
- Assists NOPD with crowd control during Mardi Gras and other events.
- Provides security for SLFPA-E’s emergency repair crews.
- Aids other law enforcement entities as requested.
- Assists other law enforcement departments in detaining aircraft and conducting other law enforcement activities.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must possess a current Louisiana driver's license.
- Must be willing and able to attain a POST certification.
Qualifications
No experience or training is required. Must be willing and able to attain a POST certification. Applicants who have been convicted of a felony or indicted on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
Skills
Must be able to perform law enforcement duties, crime prevention, and emergency services. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to communicate effectively and work with diverse populations.
