About the City
Cañon City is a Home Rule Municipality and the county seat of Fremont County, Colorado. Founded in 1858 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush, it serves as a commercial center for mining in South Park and the upper Arkansas River. With a population of over 16,700, Cañon City is a popular tourist destination known for whitewater rafting, sightseeing, and rock climbing. The city operates under a Council-Administrator form of government.
About the Role
Attend an authorized Police Academy to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Law Enforcement. Upon completion of the Academy, receive field training and perform a variety of duties for the Cañon City Police Department under close supervision.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License, or ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of hire, with a driving record acceptable to the City of Cañon City
- U.S. citizenship
- At least 21 years of age at the time of swearing in
- Eligibility for Colorado Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification (basic certification details)
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills may be substituted.
Pay
Hourly wage rate: $25.11
