About the role
Join the Phoenix Police Department as a Police Assistant in the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit / National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) Unit. This role focuses on implementing crime gun intelligence programs and utilizing eTrace to provide leads to investigators handling firearm-related crimes. Responsibilities
- Test-firing eligible firearms.
- Collecting DNA.
- Entering and correlating ballistic evidence into NIBIN.
- Transporting evidence.
- Completing firearm traces via eTrace.
- Interpreting and analyzing data associated with NIBIN investigative associations.
- Writing supplemental reports.
- Training other employees in the use of machines and software related to the Integrated Ballistic Identification System.
- Responding to subpoenas and testifying in court regarding involvement in cases.
- Working closely with outside agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE).
Requirements
- Two years of public contact or customer assistance experience.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver’s license, and have an acceptable driving record.
- Positions in the Police Department must meet background standards appropriate to non-sworn roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Police Records Management Systems.
- Handling and/or processing evidence.
- Report writing.
- Case management.
- Collaborating within a team.
- Proficiency handling firearms.

Pay
Pay Range: $23.06 to $35.78 per hour. Hiring Range: $23.06 to $28.04 per hour. The actual salary offer will consider skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
