About the role

This position conducts traffic safety educational programs at Safety City and performs general maintenance to ensure the continuity of these programs. It is a temporary position lasting through the 2026-2027 school year, requiring approximately 90-100 hours monthly.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in implementing traffic safety education programs for third graders and younger children.
  • Create and present Safety Education presentations to various community groups.
  • Maintain contact and engage in public relations activities with elementary and secondary schools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electric vehicles, bicycles, and other equipment used at Safety City.
  • Maintain Safety City facilities and grounds.
  • Take out and store miniature vehicles and bicycles daily.
  • Assist with inventorying for maintenance and equipment needs.
  • Develop and produce printed materials including brochures, flyers, and pamphlets.
  • Cross-train with other Safety City personnel to ensure a seamless program.
  • Assist with Youth Division clerical duties.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in crime prevention, public service, or safety education is preferred.
  • A high school or GED is required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of office practices, methods, and computer equipment.
  • Principles and methods of training and instruction.
  • Principles and practices in dealing with the public and public relations activities.
  • Basic understanding of traffic laws for motor vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
  • Ability to operate traffic signals and signs, audio and visual equipment, and motor vehicles safely.
  • Good time management skills with minimal direct supervision.
  • Use of computer software such as Microsoft-Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Organize effectively and multitask.
  • Repair vehicles, equipment, and facilities, which may require mechanical and minor carpentry work.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external partners in safety education, including supervisors, co-workers, teachers, parents, and volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Skills
