Schedule

Full time, day shift

Responsibilities

  • Documents and submits required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics and reports
  • Provides ongoing education and support to POCT clinicians, acting as a teacher, coach, and mentor
  • Participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities to enhance patient care
  • Maintains accreditation and inspection readiness through proper documentation and adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Manages inventory control and supply stocking to ensure availability of necessary materials
  • Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students
  • Follows safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the POCT program to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Trains and assesses the competency of testing personnel to ensure accurate and reliable test results
  • Evaluates and selects new POCT instruments and procedures to enhance testing capabilities
  • Monitors and maintains POCT equipment, including validation, correlation, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance
  • Collects and analyzes data to improve the quality and efficiency of the POCT program
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Bachelor’s degree equivalency with:
    • 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or
    • 24 semester hours of science courses that include:
      • 6 semester hours of chemistry
      • 6 semester hours of biology
      • 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
    • AND have a laboratory training program that includes:
      • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above); or
      • At least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing OR
    • Successful completion of at least a 50-week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); or
    • Qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024
  • 2+ years of technical experience including a minimum of one year in a POCT environment (preferred)
  • Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on the specific unit or state

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays if the need arises; on-call hours may also be required [Required]
  • Knowledge of POC and laboratory rules and regulations [Required]
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-lab departments [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and have good comprehension of conversational English [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]

Pay

$24.92 - $46.36 per hour
