About the role
Plumbing Service Technicians will perform skilled work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems under the direction of the service operations manager.
Responsibilities
- Install, diagnose, inspect, repair, maintain, and service a wide variety of plumbing systems
- Repair, troubleshoot, and maintain domestic hot and cold-water systems
- Understand various drainage and vent systems and repair, maintain, and troubleshoot them
- Identify different piping materials and proper tools and methods for repairing and installing them
- Perform soldering, brazing, threading, and pro-press techniques
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures and appliances
- Install and repair gas piping
- Apply basic electrical knowledge for appliances, lift stations, and water heaters
- Safely operate drain cleaning and inspection equipment such as jetters, sewer cameras, and drain machines
- Determine requirements for parts, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment; establish cost of repairs and equipment replacement; check and test new equipment
- Operate specialized machinery, equipment, and tools utilized in the repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
- Perform backflow preventer installation, repair, and inspections
- Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies in a safe and orderly condition
- Perform related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of Apprentice School or a Technical School degree, or a combination of on-the-job experience
- Valid Georgia driver’s license; must maintain insurability during employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of standard practices and theory of the plumbing trade
- Backflow Certification
- Journeyman or Master Plumbing license
- Medical Gas Certification
- Confined space certification
- Experience with operating heavy equipment
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
- Experience in basic record-keeping techniques
Skills & Abilities
- Observe legal and defensive driving practices
- Perform skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems
- Interpret and work from plans, diagrams, blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and specifications
- Follow oral and written instructions and directions
- Operate specialized machinery, equipment, and tools used in plumbing repair and maintenance
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Work cooperatively with others and independently with little direction
- Meet schedules and timelines
- Maintain routine records
Working Conditions
- Ability to climb and work at heights, walk, and stand for extended periods
- Lift, bend, push, and move objects up to 75 pounds
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and loud noises
- Drive in various conditions to conduct work
- Moderate exposure to construction, mechanical, and electrical-related hazards; requires following basic safety precautions
- Local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations
- Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, climb ladders and scaffolds, and negotiate work areas under construction
