Plumbing Inspector or Senior Plumbing Inspector
About the Role
The City of Plano is seeking a Plumbing Inspector or Senior Plumbing Inspector to join our Building Inspection department. The successful candidate will conduct on-site field inspections to ensure compliance with plumbing and mechanical codes for new construction and existing properties. This role requires a dependable form of transportation, and a car allowance will be provided. The position involves using a computer and iPad for inspections and maintaining records.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections of ongoing construction to ensure compliance with applicable plumbing and mechanical codes.
- Inspect existing properties to ensure compliance with codes.
- Respond to requests for code interpretation and application from contractors and property owners.
- Maintain records of completed inspections and enter results into a computer or iPad.
- Review plans and specifications on-site to ensure construction aligns with City-approved plans and check for code deficiencies and local zoning requirements.
- For Senior Plumbing Inspector: Train new plumbing inspectors, provide work leadership, and support the supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Class C driver’s license (must obtain a Texas Class C driver's license within 30 days of hire).
- Master or Journeyman Plumbing License.
- For Plumbing Inspector: State of Texas Plumbing Inspector license (ability to obtain within 6 months of hire).
- For Senior Plumbing Inspector: State of Texas Plumbing Inspectors License, ICC Residential and Commercial Plumbing Inspector Certification, and ICC Mechanical Inspector Certification.
- Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of national, regional, and City plumbing and mechanical codes and ordinances.
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- For Plumbing Inspector: Two (2) years of experience conducting construction or plumbing inspections.
- For Senior Plumbing Inspector: Three (3) years of plumbing inspection experience.

Pay
The salary range for the Plumbing Inspector is $52,441 - $65,551 annually, and for the Senior Plumbing Inspector, it is $57,816 – $72,270 annually.
Schedule
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The position requires being on call in a rotation with four other Plumbing Inspectors from Monday to Monday morning for emergency gas release assistance.
