PLUMBER SUPERVISOR

Responsibilities

• Plans, prioritizes, and assigns plumbing projects to bureau personnel and contractors (e.g., Plumbers, Carpenters, Painters, Electricians, Masons, General Maintenance Workers, Air-conditioning Mechanics, and Sheet Metal Workers); schedules, supervises, and monitors plumbing projects.
• Communicates with bureau personnel, contractors, customers, vendors, and supervisors regarding plumbing projects.
• Responds to emergency calls for service.
• Travels to and inspects worksites as needed.
• Provides expertise and opinions regarding future plumbing projects.
• Handles administrative tasks for bureau personnel, including:
  • Scheduling personnel for projects.
  • Monitoring timekeeping practices, vacation, and overtime requests.
  • Reviewing and updating personnel work status in MAXIMO.
  • Preparing performance evaluations, performance logs, and accident/injury reports.
• Monitors and maintains stock of materials and tools used for plumbing projects; orders necessary supplies.
• Stays updated on new technologies and materials in plumbing.
• Prepares reports for the Los Angeles County Sanitation Department regarding water quality and maintains related documentation.

Requirements

• Three years of journey-level experience* in plumbing installation, alteration, and repair work.
• A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions.
• Los Angeles County and City Certificates of Registration as a Journey Plumber (required at time of application or within seven calendar days of the filing deadline).
• A City of Los Angeles Regulation 4 Certificate may be required for testing Life/Safety systems in County buildings located within the city limits of Los Angeles. Life/Safety systems include: fire alarms, automatic-closing fire assemblies, elevator recall, fire suppression, and emergency power systems.

*Journey-level experience applies to individuals who have completed an apprenticeship program or are experienced workers fully qualified to perform the trade without supervision.

Physical Demands

Physical Class III - Moderate: This role requires standing or walking most of the time, with frequent bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Work may involve irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

Examination Process

This examination will consist of a Structured Interview assessing the following areas, weighted 100%:

• Plumbing knowledge.
• Supervisory skills.
• Troubleshooting skills.
• Organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn on the job.
• Ability to read, understand, and update blueprints and schematics.
• Computer skills.
• Knowledge of water treatment.
• Verbal communication skills.

Applicants who receive a passing score of 70% or higher will be placed on the eligible list for six months from the date of promulgation. The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Administrative Services Division, Facilities Services Bureau.
