Platform Operations Engineer II - Active Security Clearance Required

About the role

Join our Highly Visible Platform Operations team within the Akamai Defense team. You will work across Akamai's technology stack, building and operating custom world-class systems and services for our Public Sector customers. The Network Operations Command Center (NOCC) manages, monitors, and maintains Akamai's remote servers and network infrastructure. This role provides 24x7, 365 coverage for worldwide services, offering continuous learning and application of new skills and innovative technologies.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and correct emerging platform problems through an alert-driven workflow, emails, and phone calls.
• Collaborate with Engineers, System Architects, Infrastructure Vendors, and Customers to isolate problems, achieve resolution, and improve the operational stability of the platform.
• Update and patch system software components and configurations.
• Document work performed in the trouble ticketing system clearly and effectively for communication and review/learning purposes.
• Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and tools.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Experience administering UNIX-based operating systems.
• Experience working with fault detection, troubleshooting, trouble ticketing, escalation, and other related operational concepts and processes.
• Understanding and ability to write SQL queries.
• Understanding of the following protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, and HTTP.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, high attention to detail, timeliness, and dependability.
• Active Secret security clearance.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of issues through resolution.

Pay

For US-based candidates, the base salary for this position ranges from $77,500 - $139,500/year. A candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities.

• Onsite Monday through Friday at our Cambridge, MA office.
