Platform Operations Engineer II - Active Security Clearance Required

About the role

Join our Highly Visible Platform Operations team on the Akamai Defense team, working across Akamai's technology stack to build and operate custom world-class systems and services for our Public Sector customers. The Network Operations Command Center (NOCC) manages, monitors, and maintains Akamai's remote servers and network infrastructure. In this role, you will be continuously challenged to learn and apply new skills, working with innovative technologies to provide 24x7, 365 coverage for worldwide services.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and correct emerging platform problems through an alert-driven workflow, emails, and phone calls
• Collaborate with Engineers, System Architects, Infrastructure Vendors, and Customers to isolate problems, achieve resolution, and improve the operational stability of the platform
• Update and patch system software components and configurations
• Document work performed in the trouble ticketing system clearly and effectively for communication and review/learning purposes
• Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and tools

Requirements

• 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
• Experience administering UNIX-based operating systems
• Experience working with fault detection, troubleshooting, trouble ticketing, escalation, and other related operational concepts and processes
• Ability to understand and write SQL queries
• Understanding of the following protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, and HTTP
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, high level of attention to detail, excellent timeliness, and dependability
• Active Secret security clearance
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take ownership of issues through resolution

Schedule

Onsite Monday through Friday at our Cambridge, MA office.
