Platform Engineer III
Location: SeaTac, WA • 12-Month W2 Contract with possible extension • $70-$80/hour, depending on experience • Onsite/Hybrid as required by the client
About the role
Russell Tobin is supporting a leading organization in the technology and transportation industry in hiring a Senior Platform Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team focused on building and optimizing the infrastructure that supports critical applications and services.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automation, and observability. You will work closely with software engineering, DevOps, SRE, and security teams to improve platform reliability, scalability, performance, and developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available platform infrastructure.
- Develop and manage automated CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and infrastructure-as-code solutions.
- Architect, maintain, and optimize cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Implement infrastructure automation using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
- Manage containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes, including platforms such as EKS, AKS, or GKE.
- Build and maintain robust monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions.
- Utilize tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or New Relic to monitor platform health and performance.
- Identify infrastructure bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
- Implement cloud security best practices, including IAM, network security, access controls, and compliance requirements.
- Partner closely with software engineers, SREs, DevOps, and security teams to streamline development and deployment workflows.
- Develop automation and operational tooling using Python, Bash, or Go.
- Participate in incident response and on-call rotations, troubleshooting production issues and driving timely resolution.
- Contribute to improving developer experience through reliable tooling, automation, and streamlined infrastructure processes.
- Document infrastructure, processes, operational procedures, and technical solutions.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve platform reliability, security, cost efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes and Docker; experience with EKS, AKS, or GKE is highly desirable.
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or similar tools.
- Strong scripting or programming skills in Python, Bash, or Go.
- Experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or New Relic.
- Knowledge of cloud security principles, including IAM, network security, access management, and compliance frameworks.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex production and infrastructure issues.
- Experience working in highly available, production-critical environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, DevOps, SRE, and security teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating large-scale cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with Kubernetes platform engineering and container orchestration.
- Experience implementing infrastructure automation and self-service developer platforms.
- Experience with cloud cost optimization and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar security/compliance frameworks.
- Experience supporting 24/7 production environments and participating in on-call rotations.
- Experience working in transportation, travel, technology, e-commerce, or other high-availability environments.
