About the role
As a Platform Engineer III, you will manage and evolve our API Gateway integration platforms at enterprise scale, analyze and refine API definition standards, and guide and mentor junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Manage and advance the API integration platforms and related infrastructure components, including software upgrades, performance monitoring, and application development team collaboration
- Help lead platform enhancement efforts that enable flexible and secure integration between internal and external services
- Provide guidance and expertise for application service design, data and transaction workflows for scalability, reliability and extensibility
- Follow infrastructure-as-code best practices (Terraform, Helm, Ansible) for repeatable deployments and environment consistency
- Drive operational excellence through on-call rotation support, thorough post-mortem investigation, and implementing solutions that improve resilience
- Perform unit testing and complex debugging, and identify opportunities for automated testing where appropriate
- Analyze technical feasibility and solution design, including estimation of work efforts, planning, and backlog organization
- Avoid business disruption during upgrades, patching, and platform updates
- Set reliability targets and define operational metrics (availability, latency, error budgets) in line with SRE methodologies
- Write detailed technical documentation for systems, including architectural diagrams, and operational procedures for standardized actions used for maintenance and support
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
- 4-6 years of relevant technical and business experience in IT systems delivery, operations, and support (preferably in healthcare or high-transaction environments)
- 3+ years of experience in technical engineering efforts involving implementation and management of IT systems
- Hands-on experience with:
- API Gateway management at scale
- HTTP integration and API authentication frameworks
- SSL certificates (validation, encryption, authentication, signature)
- Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible, Helm) and AWS services (VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, Istio)
- Observability and monitoring tools (preferably Splunk, New Relic)
Qualifications
- Experience bridging infrastructure and development teams, ensuring alignment of roadmaps and goals
- Ability to lead and guide technical teams
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Skills
- SaaS experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical systems
- Familiarity with API management and gateway software (preferably Tyk) and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) product management
- Background in metrics-driven reliability engineering (SLOs, SLIs, error budgets)
- Experience with scripting/programming (Go, JavaScript, Python, etc.)
